If you’re a Reds fan, you have more than likely heard of the speedy prospect, Billy Hamilton. If you haven’t heard of him, look him up now. Hamilton has been doing great so far this season with the high class A Bakersfield. Hamilton is 21-53 so far on the season, that’s good for a .396 batting average. Billy has 1 homerun, five doubles, twelve stolen bases, three triples; he has also driven in eight runs.
Hamilton’s performance the last ten games has been incredible, he has a .487 batting average, with, 19 hits, 4 doubles, three triples, ten stolen bases, and he has driven in five of his eight runs so far in the season in the past ten games. With the help of his outstanding performance, Billy is ranked #1 of Baseball America’s prospect hot sheet. The rankings are based off of performance between the dates of April 13-19.
Baseball America had this to say about Hamilton in their hot sheet post, “Playing in the California League helps every hitter, and Hamilton is no exception. He has shown improvement, however, as he’s hitting for average, getting on base and even showing some pop. Roughly 10 percent of the way through the season, Hamilton has nine extra-base hits including three triples. He had 30 long hits all of last year.”
“Hamilton currently has a 10-game hitting streak and five straight multi-hit games. He’s done it while playing at home and at San Jose and Visalia, which are not as hitter-happy as some other Cal League locales. Hamilton will never be a power hitter, but if he can sting the ball enough to find the gaps, his speed will take care of the rest. Interestingly, the weakest part of Hamilton’s game this week was his basestealing. He was thrown out in three straight games and is now 12-for-16 for the season (75 percent success rate).”
